Motivation

Documentation is an essential part of libre software. Thus a significant number of people are spending a significant amount of time on writing documentation, translating it, or developing tools to process it. We find utterly important that all these people gather to exchange experiences, share issues and solutions.

Scope

Here is a non-exhaustive list of issues that could be discussed during the meetings:

  • Writing
  • Translating
  • Licensing
  • Source file formats
  • Publication formats
  • Editing tools
  • Processing tools
  • Management tools
  • Cataloging

Activities

The schedule for the talks is nearly final.

Proposed workshops

There is one single scheduled workshop : Documentation hackers and LDP staff meeting for internal discussing. Ismael Olea wrote: I'll need your opinion for the next activist steps of LDP-ES and Hispalinux, and, I hope, LDP.

The following subjects will not lead to formal workshops, but will probably be discussed informally during the LSM. Room TD09 will most probably be used for these discussions.

  • Acceptance of DocBook by non-technical people
  • GUIs for structured documentation
  • DocBook: SGML vs. XML

Participate

To get in touch with the people involved in th Documentation topic, you can either:

  • Subscribe to the related mailing list <doc_leaders@franklin.oit.unc.edu> on the doc_leaders Mailing List page (you can also browse the list archives there);
  • Connect to the #docbook IRC channel on server irc.openprojects.net. While this channel is not directly dedicated to the Documentation topic at LSM, you may find there people involved in it;
  • Contact by mail the topic chairs listed above.
